Farewell Brooks

Today we
had to make the toughest decision that anyone owned by a dog
has to make...the decision to say goodbye. Brooks was in chronic
pain that even
narcotics couldn't subdue. He could barely walk or stand, was hard
to feed, and would
often get himself stuck in a corner that would cause panic attacks
for hours. We took
our sweet boy to the vet, and she helped him cross the bridge. She
is a very nice
lady who was fond of Brooks, and gave him the injection while he
laid on dog beds in our
van, surrounded by the two people that loved him most.
Brooks is really the dog that opened up the Greyhound world for
us. He was the subject
of my first ever greyhound paintings...and look what that lead to!
He was 13 1/2 years old,
and gave us over ten years of good times and memories. He will be
missed...but I am
gratified that even folks that never met Brooks have his likeness
framed on their walls.
"Life's A Beach", "Prince of Tides", "Warhol"
and many others.
Brooks was a certified therapy dog, and often visited nursing homes
and schools.
One time, at the end of a "READS" visit at an elementary
school, a little boy threw his arms
around Brooks and proclaimed "This dog is AWESOME!" How
true.
